FURNITURE
Donation:

Salvation Army of Greater New York. The Salvation Army will pick up large amounts of clothing, furniture (must be in good condition) or household items. Call 1-800-728-7825 or 914-664-1800. Pick-ups must be scheduled 7-14 days before. Or you can donate items to their stores or drop-off boxes. Drop-off box locations include 115 Wildey St. Tarrytown.
Goodwill of NY/NJ. 380 Saw Mill River Rd, Elmsford, NY 10523 Rte. 9A Elmsford. Open Monday-Sunday, 10-8. (Takes household goods, including some small furniture items in good repair, clothing, electronics and books.) Pick-up service? Goodwill is its own non-profit, which provides services for developmental and physically disabled individuals, helping them to find employment.
The Cherry Door, Main Street, Tarrytown. Open Tuesday-Saturday, 11-4. (Takes household goods, including furniture in good repair and electronics, and toys. No clothing or bedding. No pick-up service unless pre-arranged with staff). Affiliated with Phelps Hospital.

CLOTHING/ TEXTILES
Don’t throw away your textiles! Even if they are torn, stained or otherwise unwearable, they can be recycled! They can be made into pillow and car seat stuffing, housing insulation and wiping rags. If we throw them in the trash, we have to pay to dispose of them which wastes Village funds. If they are in good shape, you can take them to one of the non-profits that sell them for a good cause. If they are in bad shape, you can take them to one of the donation bins listed below. Also see the list below of manufacturers who take your used clothes and shoes, and some give you coupons in return.

Did you know that New York State has a law requiring that manufacturers provide free and convenient recycling of electronic waste to consumers?

The easiest way to recycle electronics:
Household Materials Recovery Facility (H-MRF) on 15 Woods Road on the Grasslands Campus (near Westchester Medical Center). E-Waste and hazardous waste can be left at this county-operated facility. Make an appointment online http://environment.westchestergov.com/facilities/h-mrf/reservation-system or by telephone to the Recycling Hotline: (914) 813-5425. Everything is recycled from this facility. Nothing is dumped in the trash.
