I pledge to be more thoughtful about my waste.
This is not a commitment to perfection. This is a promise for a change in mindset – that not all waste belongs in the garbage.
I pledge to recycle properly — sort plastics, glass, metals, and paper properly and place them loose in a bin, not in a plastic bag. If something doesn’t fit that category, I’ll check the Recycle Right Westchester app before disposing.
I pledge to be mindful about food waste — whether I drop my food scraps at the DF Drop site (1 Stanley Ave, at Rivertowns Square), explore composting at home, or hire a private company like Hudson Compost to haul my food scraps each week from my curb.
I pledge to be thoughtful when disposing of unwanted household bulk items — by leveraging such tools as the TILI Garage, local Buy Nothing Facebook Groups, or finding a source to donate on the recycling page of the Sustainable Dobbs website or the Recycle Right Westchester app.
I pledge to adjust my buying habits — stop purchasing single use plastics whenever possible, buy in bulk, forgo plastic utensils with takeout orders and consider shopping second-hand.
I pledge to be conscious of my yard waste — by either mulching in place thereby leaving leaves to decompose naturally, or by placing them in paper yard bags, not plastic contractor bags.
